Strengthening Families Georgia Selected Accomplishments 2011-2017

Development included:

  • SFG_FactSheet_ImageStrengthening Families Georgia Fact Sheet (Spanish Version)
  • Twice per year SFG newsletters, one for Parents and one for Professionals
  • Developed two-hour face-to-face training modules: the Strengthening Families Georgia (SFG) Overview and 5 modules, one on each of the Protective Factors (2011). From 2011 -16 over 6,000 child and family serving professionals received face-to-face SFG training.   • 234 trainers approved to deliver SFG training as of July 2016.

  • Online Strengthening Families Georgia Overview in English (2012) and Spanish (2013) for Quality Rated Program participants supported by the Georgia Department Early Care and Learning (DECAL). As of August 2016 over 20,000 Quality Rated participants have completed the SFG Overview Course.
  • Revision of Kids Count on You (KCOY): Protecting Children by Strengthening Families and facilitation of a KCOY Training of Trainers for 24 previously approved KCOY trainers and supported by United Way of Greater Atlanta (2013)
  • Strengthening Families of Georgia Partner Survey developed and conducted annually (2013)
  • Strengthening Families Georgia Talking Points and Elevator Speeches for Parents and Professionals (2013)
  • Website Verbiage (2013)
  • One-hour face-to-face Strengthening Families Georgia Parent Modules (2014) and a parent handout on each of the Protective Factors.

Strengthening Families Protective Factors were embedded in several key Georgia initiatives:

  • 360Embedded in the Georgia Department of Education’s 360 Degrees and Standards (2011)
  • Parent Cafes have been offered by many Strengthening Families Georgia Partners. Most notably by Family Connection Partnership, United Way of Greater Atlanta, and Sheltering Arms Early Education and Family Centers (2011 and ongoing)
  • Training conducted by Sheltering Arms Early Education and Family Center Georgia Training Institute on Parent Cafes and How to Embed Strengthening Families Training conducted by Sheltering Arms and Family Center Georgia Training Institute (2012)
  • Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) Quality Rated (QR) Program. DECAL incorporated the Strengthening Families self-assessment, SFG Overview Training and action plan/portfolio development into their QR Program (2012)
  • Parent Leadership Academy Training (PLAT) through partnership with the Georgia Department of Education and Sheltering Arms Early Education and Family Center (2012)
  • Georgia Association on Young Children’s (GAYC) Strengthening Families Georgia Atlanta Promise Neighborhood (GAYC SFG APN) supported by United Way of Greater Atlanta (UWGA). Through the SFG APN the Atlanta Public Schools Academic Center, the Black Women’s Wellness Center, the Atlanta Civic Site, and others have helped SFG APN  reach teen moms, family child care providers, and other populations (2012-14)
  • Georgia Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) Roundtables (2014)
  • Georgia Home Visiting Network Core Competencies (under development 2014)
  • Georgia Department of Public Health’s (DPH) Project LAUNCH (2014)
  • Several organizations have embedded the Protective Factors in their professional development offerings, for example: GA Department of Public Health – Project Launch (2016), UGA Healthy Marriage and Relationship Education – Project F.R.E.E. (2017), Youth Thrive – Multi-Agency Alliance for Children (MAAC) and DFCS’s Independent Living Program (ILP) (2015-present), Georgia Essentials for Childhood, Georgia Alliance to End Homelessness (2015-present), Georgia Home Visiting Annual Conference (2013-14), Georgia Head Start Annual Spring Conference (2011-13), Prevent Child Abuse Georgia, Georgia Association of Young Children Annual Conference (2011-present), GA Department of Education’s biannual statewide Family Engagement Conference (2012, 2016), Sheltering Arms Early Education and Family Centers (2009-present), Athens Technical College (2013- present), and others.
